What information about me is stored in the Central Register of Foreigners (AZR) or the Schengen Information System (SIS)? Am I subject to an entry ban for Germany? The Embassy cannot answer these questions directly. Any request regarding the duration of a possible entry ban must also be submitted directly to the authority that imposed it.

Application for Access to Information from the Central Register of Foreigners (AZR-Selbstauskunft)

A request for personal information from the Central Register of Foreigners must be submitted in writing to the Federal Office of Administration (BVA) in Cologne. To prevent personal data from being disclosed to unauthorized parties, a request for information can only be answered in detail once the identity of the individual concerned has been verified. The required proof of identity is provided by confirming the identity on the application form.

This certification can be provided, for example, by a German diplomatic or consular mission abroad, but also by authorities in Bulgaria authorized to certify signatures (e.g., a notary’s office).

To have your identity verified by the Embassy, you may visit the Consular Section during its opening hours and present the completed form and a valid form of identification. The fee is 36.00 EUR.

Application of Access to Information from the Schengen Information System

A request for self-disclosure from the Schengen Information System must be submitted in writing to the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) in Wiesbaden. Since the information may only be disclosed to the person who is actually entitled to it, the BKA must verify the identity of the person requesting the information and ensure that only that person receives it.
