During the application process, you must prove that you meet the requirements for the visa to be issued (see Section 82 (1) of the Residence Act). Proof must always be provided in writing, i.e., by submitting documents.

The following information refers to language courses without subsequent training or study. For preparatory language courses, please refer to the information under student visa or visa to seek a place of higher education.

The following requirements must be met in order to obtain a visa for a language course:

• It must be an intensive language course: daily lessons with at least 18 hours of instruction per week. Evening and weekend courses are not sufficient.
• The language course must be aimed at acquiring comprehensive German language skills.
• The duration of the language course must be limited from the outset.
• Taking up gainful employment during the language course is not permitted.

The following documents are required in original and copy for the application:

• Application form including instructions in accordance with § 54 AufenthG, completed in full in English or German and signed. Please use our digital application form for this purpose. (original only)
• Current biometric passport photo (original only)
• Valid passport.
  Note: The passport must be valid for at least 3 months after the visa expires (i.e., at least 15 months when the visa is issued), have at least 2 blank pages, and have been issued within the previous 10 years.
• Your valid Bulgarian residence permit, if expired, with proof of the requested extension.
  Note: The embassy can only accept visa applications from persons with habitual residence in Bulgaria (at least 6 months). In cases of doubt, additional documents must be submitted, e.g., rental agreement, etc.
• Invitation from the language school with the following information: course location, course duration and level at the beginning and end of the course, as well as the number of hours per week with confirmation of the course fees paid for the entire stay.
  Please note: An integration course is not a language course in the sense of the Residence Act.
• Proof of sufficient financial resources amounting to €1,091 per month for the entire duration of the planned language course. We recommend opening a blocked account. You can find more information here.
• A letter of motivation written and signed by you in German or English, detailing the reasons for the intended language course and plans for your future career (original only).
• A complete tabular resume in German or English, including full addresses and contact details (original only).
• Proof of your professional/educational qualifications, e.g., certificate of enrollment, university degree, high school diploma. If you have already acquired German language skills, please provide appropriate proof (e.g., language certificate).
• European health insurance with coverage of at least EUR 30,000 for the entire period
• Fee of EUR 75.00 (payable in cash or by Visa or MasterCard)

The Embassy reserves the right to request additional documents from you in individual cases after you have submitted your application.
